I like using a WB too. I'm just not really handy with it. I need to manipulate it better.

Maybe someone should do a tut on these babies. Someone with a lot of experience. I know we all could probably use it.

They are an absolute treasure! I can't imagine not having mine. It makes things so much quicker and in most cases cleaner (the cut).

I have one, but I've only used it once. I'm a little afraid of it. :smilielol5: I was planning on putting my crafts/bows on our 3rd floor and try to use it there away from the kids.

Once you get your first good burn in, you'll be good to go, lol!

I absolutely agree!! I was lucky, my Mom had one that I could try out before I went and spent the money on a new one. I LOVE this thing!! It has definately just made my life easier!!

I love, love mine! My cuts are super straight and sealed better than a lighter. I found that with a lighter it would still fray after a bit of wear.

I used a lighter for the first few months. When I switched to my woodburner, I was in heaven - even though I did get my first good burn on the second day of use. You know you're a wb fanatic when you hear your skin sizzle, glance at it, and then keep on burning away. :D

I started using a WB a year and a half ago and I'm still afraid of the thing!! But I do love it too. I tell everyone I was born with a glue gun in one hand b/c it gets used for everything! Guy's have duct tape, girls we have glue guns :smilielol5:

What tip does everyone use? I use the shaft more than the tip. Especially when doing clips

I like the pointed tip, the one that looks like a pen. I think most like the chiseled one but I do better with pointed.

Clean the tip with aluminum foil. Sounds like it is gunked up.

It works like a charm... if you ever use it enough to have to clean it, lol.

I am to intimidate to try one. I want to lol, but I don't want to burn myself and I don't have a set craft spot so I usually do my bow making in the living room. Not a good idea with the kids around probably.

You definitely want to keep it away from areas where your kids will frequent.

I used a lighter for a day or two and gave up on that QUICK! I always use mine, its a dream...Once you get used to using it you can do tonnes with it...I normally use the large chisel tip because I love the way it cuts and it lays flat against my glass cutting board rather then pointed....

After reading some other comments about this I decided to ask my mother in law to pull hers out. She is currently looking for it and I cannot wait to get my hands on it (as long as I dont get burned LOL!).

Has anybody used the exacto blade tip? I thought about it today but thought I would just ask first.

i have and it's no good. mine only came with the rounded tip that didn't do anything, so i bought the exacto tip and it doesn't cut good at all.. needless to say, i'm back to the scissors and a lighter. i'm so frustrated with this wood-burning tool, and i wasted $13 on it, when i could have bought a ton of ribbon with that! lol...

Not sure if this will help anyone out or not but this is the tip I use...My woodburner came with two different sizes of this tip and I use the large one. this is the ONLY tip I have been able to use so far....

LOL, that is the one tip that I have the least success with! It is funny how we are more comfortable/proficient with different tips but achieve similar outcomes.

I use this one as well and absolutely love it. I haven't tried any of the other ones though..might have to experiment!

Yep, that one is great! I can get a finer cut line and it does not matter what "side" of the tip I use... it is all the same. No twisting or angling. I like to keep it simple, lol!

I'm going to be brave and try the pen tip one this weekend!! Hopefully it works as well for me as it does for everyone else!

so, is the wood burning tool basically just for heat sealing? i thought you were supposed to cut with it, but in some instructions i just got, i think she only uses it for heat sealing. maybe if i use a metal ruler with it, it'll help with the cutting... so frustrated with it!

I use mine primarily to cut. The greatest benefit in that is that it also heat seals when you cut. No more cutting ribbon from the roll and then taking a lighter to heat seal both the end that you cut and the one left on the roll. Use a woodburner to cut the ribbon the size you need it and it is sealed in the process.

I love my woodburner.....it took me a little while to get the hang of it, but now I can't imagine not using it! I was very intimidated at first.
