I came across this tonight and think I like it a lot. This lady had a large clear rolling tote with drawers. She divided the drawers with matboard. On the front, she put an example of the type of ribbon that was in section across what looks like a can lid. Inside, she cuts squares of matboard and wraps her ribbon around it and puts a rubberband on it.
I've attached pics. Thought it was a neat idea and wanted to share.

Now THAT'S organized!! I have my ribbon in a rolling drawer thingy. Then I have those plastic drawer organizers in each drawer. I have the long ones you might keep pens and pencils in (these are great for the 5 yds of rolled ribbon) then I have the 4"x6" ones in another drawer ... it works out pretty well and inexpensive.

I thought it was great too. It amazes me at how fast you can accumulate ribbon, etc. Mine started out as just making a few bows for my daughter. Now, I have totes everywhere with ribbon thrown in by color. It unrolls and gets very unorganized, really fast which drives me bananas. I think I may just have to make a trip to Michael's Friday to see if they have any of these.

I am working on this now and so excited to be organized! I spent all day cutting the foam boards and putting them in the drawers! It was super easy but took all my foam board so now I am going to go to the store tomorrow to get another to cut into squares! I love it!

Please post pictures of yours when you finish. I'd love to see someone else's take on this.

I love how organized that is. I do something similar with my small pieces of ribbon, like less than 5 yards. I should really organize them by color like that, it'd be SO nice.

This is a great idea. Especially for people have tons of printed ribbons.
Thank you for sharing.

That's kind of how I stored my ribbon, but I when I'd use it the ribbon would sometimes have creases and I'd have to iron it, and I hated to have to stop get the iron out all the time, so I changed to using paper towel rolls cut smaller, so there wouldn't be any creases, but it takes up so much space. So I read somewhere to use a flat iron to "iron" your ribbon, and it works great on grosgrain, so much easier then getting out the iron. You can keep it right next to you and run the ribbon through it quickly and keep on working, so I'm going back to storing most of my ribbon that doesn't come on rolls like this.

I like this for the ribbon that I have that is just rolled and not on spools! It would even work for the 5 roll spools. I have 2 of those cabinets too. Thanks for the inspiration!

Now that is a really great idea! It would take me forever though to wrap all of my ribbon like that, but it does allow you to store a lot of ribbon in a smaller space.

I ended up making something similar after I saw this! I wish I had the space for something as organized as that, but I'm happy with my variation. I highly recommend this for organizing your small yards of ribbon!

Thanks so much for posting that! My ribbon is getting super crazy and I have been trying everything. I went out and bought a ribbon spooler: 403 Access Denied (http://www.lafrei.primweb.com/store/Default.asp) and I just want them so I can find them. This is such a great idea!
