I've been doing bows for a little while now and am wondering if you can use wired ribbon for hair bows. I was thinking that for the larger bows, the wider, wired ribbon would hold its shape better. Thanks to all:)

You can use it but I don't like too. The wire is easily bent so it would not necessarily hold the shape you may be intending.

I agree that the wire would bend too easily. I have seen where people suggest taking the wire out. I have tried that, it wasn't too difficult to get out. I made a huge bow with Christmas ribbon. Never actually used it for anything though.

Then you could starch the bow, but I'm not sure starching would help keep the shape. It is up to you. You won't know how you like working with it until you try it out :) Everyone has different preferences.

If you are new to bow making, try it out. It's good to see what YOU like and what you don't like. I was in a craft boutique where another vendor only made bow with wired ribbon. It's just a whole different type of look and feel. So just find your own style. There is no right or wrong

Have you tried it yet? I'd like to know if it worked for you or not. :)

I have used it both ways. I have left the wire in, and taken it out. Its not hard to take out at all. Also, I have found that most of the 2" ribbon, and some of the smaller has wire in it. I have used all types of ribbon, Im not scared...lol Oh, if you use it with it in it, I put a dab of hot glue on the ends to keep them from poking thru.

Ive used wired ribbon before and I dont like it very much...basically because I always seem to get poked with the wire. I guess I should just be more careful. You should try it though you might love it....good luck!

I agree! Try and see if you like it. We all do things different. And who knows you may like the way it looks. I use wire ribbon to make wire ribbon roses. Right now they are one of my hottest sellers.

I think it depends on the bow, I have seen some that look pretty cool with bigger ribbon! It's one of those personal preferences things... try it out!
