I'm no help as I stink at these too! Though I have to say your attempt is MUCH better than I have been able to do!

First of all, stick with 7/8 for your first time and until you get it down, stick with grosgrain, Those shiny nylon or whatever ribbons are extremely difficult to get to look right even if you've been making bows for years. Your main problem on this bow is that with 5/8 and with that material the bow should have been a lot smaller. Your loops are much too big. Try again with a 7/8 inch grosgrain. HTH.

And yeah, that ribbon is better for simple lined clippies.

It takes a lot of practice. Mine are still hit or miss. Sometimes I can get it on the first try, sometimes it takes a few tries.
If you google "perky butterfly fold bow" you will find a tutu site that has an alternative way to make the boutique bow. I don't use this method, but I know a lot of people have been able to get it this way.
HTH! :)

OH, and if you haven't seen it yet, Vanitha has a set of instructions on here that uses 3/8" ribbon.

It's so hard to help without being able to show in person. I'd like to know what directions you are going off of. Something in the directions doesn't seem to be clear enough. It looks like the same kind of issue with the one loop twisted. You can make bows with that type of loop, but it's like you have part of one bow and part of another bow rolled into one. Not to overwhelm you, but try this site:

They have directions on bow making that are wonderful and free Don't give up!! You'll get it!!
