How to make stretchy cloth headband
Things needed:
Stretchy Fabric
A cardboard or a file folder as template
scissors
sewing machine
Measurements:
For newborn/infants - 14 inches length X 1.5 inch width
Toddler size will be 18 inches length
http://i709.photobucket.com/albums/ww95/poshnpretty/headbands/DSC08841.jpg
First we have to cut the template.
http://i709.photobucket.com/albums/ww95/poshnpretty/headbands/DSC08844.jpg
Cut 15 inches length and 3.5 inches width(1.5 * 2 + 0.5 inches) in the file folder.
http://i709.photobucket.com/albums/ww95/poshnpretty/headbands/DSC08851.jpg
This will be our template.
Place the template on the fabric and cut them as per the size
http://i709.photobucket.com/albums/ww95/poshnpretty/headbands/DSC08853.jpg
Save the template for future use. Now the fabric is ready to sew.
http://i709.photobucket.com/albums/ww95/poshnpretty/headbands/DSC08854.jpg
Fold the fabric in half
http://i709.photobucket.com/albums/ww95/poshnpretty/headbands/DSC08855.jpg
Now start sewing.
http://i709.photobucket.com/albums/ww95/poshnpretty/headbands/DSC08856.jpg
You can also use a zigzag but this fabric wont fray.
http://i709.photobucket.com/albums/ww95/poshnpretty/headbands/DSC08857.jpg
i sewed two stitches, so the thread wont come off. I am using regular stitch as these are for infants, but for toddlers use "stretch stitch" or "picot stitch"(for t shirt materials)
This is the difference between home made and "made in china"
http://i709.photobucket.com/albums/ww95/poshnpretty/headbands/DSC08858.jpg
Turn the fabric inside out
http://i709.photobucket.com/albums/ww95/poshnpretty/headbands/DSC08861.jpg
Take the ends together and stitch again.
http://i709.photobucket.com/albums/ww95/poshnpretty/headbands/DSC08862.jpg
Headband is ready.
http://i709.photobucket.com/albums/ww95/poshnpretty/headbands/DSC08863.jpg
Cover the stitches using 7/8 matching grosgrain to hide the stitches.
http://i709.photobucket.com/albums/ww95/poshnpretty/headbands/DSC08864.jpg
I am using hot glue
http://i709.photobucket.com/albums/ww95/poshnpretty/headbands/DSC08865.jpg

Thank you so much for these instructions!! I have been wanting to make them!
Do you have to use elastic thread or anything or will it stretch with regular thread?? This may be a dumb question.. lol.. but i dont sew much at all!

As these headbands are for newborns(they do not stretch much), i used a regular stitch.
But if these are for toddlers, i recommend wide zigzag stitches or many machines have something called "stretch stitch".
They are for knit ot tshirt material.smil)

I'll let ya know how it goes. I have something to share finally. I'll put the pics up when my computer is fixed. My daughter poured fizzy orange into the keyboard so i'm on my ancient one. I made a little soother clip today. It's a baby's baby foot made from pink fleece. I'm really proud of myself!!!! It's not often that i get creative.....LOL.......

I did it Barbara!!!!!!!!! I used the machine and it didn't bite me........LOL:clap: I used 2 materials. Both were stretchy but the machine kept swallowing one of them so i gave up and made it with the other one. It turned out lovely but i just have to get some wider grosgrain. All i have is 3/8". It's a pain cos i have to buy online all the time and wait ages for it to arrive:o It can't be bought in the shops here...... Oh well, i'll get there sometime!
